By pursuing these standards, IXON aims to give machine builders a helping hand in completing their own IEC 62443 compliance and thus move closer to a completely safe system or machine.
Jalal Bouhdada, CEO of Applied Risk explains: “IXON has demonstrated a strong commitment to security throughout the Security Development Lifecycle (SDLC) for the IXrouter product series.”
Machines are increasingly connected to the internet, leading to IT/OT cybersecurity challenges. Machine manufacturers do not want to risk losing face due to security issues. Moreover, manufacturers expect them to meet various security standards when buying their machines.
Machine builders play an important role in both IT/OT cybersecurity and machine safety. To ensure that the entire system, from hardware to the cloud and the processes involved, is secure, IEC 62443 is the most practically applicable security standard for industrial machinery. It helps organisations reduce the risk of exposure to vulnerabilities in the security of industrial automation and control systems (IACS).
Willem Hofmans, CEO of IXON states: “Our products and services meet the requirements of IEC 62443 standards. This means we have all the expertise to support our customers in designing, building and delivering their machines according to the latest security standards, together with cybersecurity partners such as Applied Risk.”
The IEC 62443 standard consists of 14 substandards in four categories, of which IXON is compliant with both IEC 62443-4-1 and IEC 62443-4-2. These substandards contain the technical guidelines for the development of safe industrial components or products and are aimed at manufacturers of industrial equipment.

IXON's compliance with these sub-standards means that their components are safe. This contributes to the IEC 62443 substandard that machine builders consider important: IEC 62443-3-3. This substandard ensures that the entire system or machine is safe with regard to cybersecurity.
Dylan Eikelenboom, security officer at IXON says: “IXON as a whole and the IXON Cloud platform are ISO 27001 certified, which guarantees that we meet all information security requirements in general. With our knowledge of the IEC 62443 standard, we are even better aligned with our customers, as this standard focuses on IT security of industrial machines.”
