After more than a year of mainly virtual meetings, including within the automation industry, Mesago Messe Frankfurt is once again organising a trade fair where face-to-face contact and interaction are possible. From 23 to 25 November, around 750 exhibitors will be presenting the latest products and solutions for smart and digital automation at SPS at NürnbergMesse. In what we might call ‘the new normal’, protecting the health of all exhibitors, visitors, service partners and staff is, of course, the top priority. To this end, a comprehensive safety and hygiene plan has been developed, based on three pillars: organisation, social distancing and hygiene.

Smart Production Solutions (SPS) is the leading platform for smart and digital automation. This trade fair serves as a meeting place for exhibitors and visitors, focusing on practical and intelligent solutions to the challenges of today and tomorrow. The stands are spread across the various halls of the NürnbergMesse and organised by theme according to the exhibitors’ core activities. They pull out all the stops to showcase their full product range, but above all their innovative developments. SPS is not just a showcase for innovative, intelligent products and solutions; visitors can also benefit from live demonstrations, direct one-to-one discussions and the opportunity to network with experts from many leading companies as well as new entrants to the market. This gives visitors a clear overview of what is happening in the market – from a simple sensor to a smart turnkey solution. They can find out what is possible today and discover the trends for tomorrow.
For the first time, visitors can attend this trade fair both in person and online. With ‘SPS on air’, the organisers are launching a digital platform, resulting in a hybrid edition. By combining both worlds, all potential participants worldwide can take part in the event, regardless of time, budget or travel restrictions. The digital content will remain available even after the in-person exhibition ends on 25 November, leaving plenty of time to network and explore specific topics in greater depth. The supporting programme – both live and online – includes talks on topics such as digital transformation/Industry 4.0, industrial communication, safety, new logistics methods and robot integration, each delivered by expert speakers from the sector. The content of most of these talks will also be available on the ‘SPS on air’ platform. One of the highlights will be the session led by Christian Baudis, the former managing director of Google Germany. He will discuss the importance of data as a competitive advantage in industry, as well as topics such as robotics, sensor technology and cyber security. Dr Henning Beck, a neuroscientist and bestselling author, will focus on one of the most innovative structures on Earth: the brain. He will demonstrate what distinguishes human thought from algorithms and how this can be used to develop genuine innovations.

This event will, of course, take place in accordance with the current COVID-19 regulations approved by the Bavarian state government. This ensures that health risks are kept to a minimum. Consequently, advance registration is required, as entry is only permitted for those with proof of vaccination, a negative test result or proof of recovery. In addition, wearing a medical face mask is compulsory. After all, safeguarding the health of all exhibitors, visitors, service partners and staff is the organisers’ top priority.
