Crumb automation world together in Nuremberg

The economic climate may not be stormy yet, but we have seen better times. Nevertheless, the thirtieth edition of SPS was a resounding success, attracting an impressive 63,000 visitors. Companies are still actively looking for products and solutions for smart and digital automation. The answer to the challenges facing the manufacturing industry.

SPS 2019 Exhibition

The number of exhibitors with their own stands at SPS was greater than ever before. No fewer than 1,585 exhibitors spread over an exhibition area of 135,500 m² rolled out the red carpet for Smart Production Solutions for the 63,708 visitors. The new name of the SPS trade fair clearly indicates the direction in which the industry is evolving. If the manufacturing industry wants to bring personalised products to market at the cost price of mass production, production will have to be organised more flexibly in order to switch quickly. Smart components, machines and software will play a key role in this transition. It is therefore not surprising that the guided tours at the fair on machine learning and artificial intelligence, product and machine simulation, industrial security in production and cloud ecosystems were particularly popular with visitors to the fair.

Digitalisation put into practice

Nothing new under the sun, you say? Same story as last year? Perhaps the biggest difference compared to previous years is the number of concrete cases that manufacturers can now present and communicate about. These were discussed at length during the trade fair and were important topics of conversation at the stands. Proof that digitisation is already making a difference in practice. This convergence between the world of control and the world of information technology was evident in each of the seventeen halls. The IT world was more present and intertwined with production technology than ever before: digital twins, cloud, big data... No production process will be able to function without it in the future. This also made cybersecurity one of the striking topics this year, bundled in hall 6. Visitors quickly found their way there. Next year, the exhibition will take place from 24 to 26 November.
