Siemens and NVIDIA enable industrial metaverse

  • Partnership to transform the manufacturing industry with total lifecycle experiences from design to operation
  • Enterprises will connect NVIDIA Omniverse with Siemens Xcelerator platforms to enable a highly faithful ‘digital twin’ and connect software-assisted AI systems from edge to cloud

Siemens, a market leader in industrial automation and software, infrastructure, construction technology and transportation, and NVIDIA, a pioneer in accelerated graphics and artificial intelligence (AI), today announced an expansion of their partnership to enable the industrial metaverse and the increasing use of AI-enabled technology for ‘digital twins’, which will help take industrial automation to unprecedented levels.

As a first step in this collaboration, the companies plan to connect Siemens Xcelerator, the open digital business platform, with NVIDIA Omniverse™, a platform for 3D design and collaboration. This will contribute to an industrial metaverse with physics-based digital models from Siemens and real-time AI from NVIDIA, where enterprises can make decisions faster and with more confidence.

The addition of Omniverse to the Siemens Xcelerator open ecosystem will accelerate the use of ‘digital twins’ to create productivity and process improvements during manufacturing and product lifecycles. Enterprises of all sizes will be able to use ‘digital twins’ with real-time performance data; create innovative industrial IoT solutions; leverage actionable insights from analytics at the edge or in the cloud; and tackle tomorrow's engineering challenges by making visually rich total simulations more accessible.

“When embedded in the industrial metaverse, these photorealistic physics-based ‘digital twins’ offer enormous potential to transform our economies and industries by providing a virtual world in which people can interact and collaborate to solve real-world problems. Through this partnership, we will make the industrial metaverse a reality for enterprises of all sizes,” said Roland Busch, President and Chief Executive Officer of Siemens AG. “For more than a decade, our ‘digital twin’ technology has helped customers in all industries to increase their productivity, and today we offer the most comprehensive ‘digital twin’ in the industry. When Siemens Xcelerator is connected to the Omniverse, we will enable a real-time, immersive metaverse that connects hardware and software from edge to cloud with the rich data of Siemens” software and solutions."

“Siemens and NVIDIA share the common vision that industrial metaverse will drive digital transformation. This is just a first step in our joint efforts to make this vision real for our customers and all parts of the global manufacturing industry,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO and NVIDIA. “The connection with Siemens Xcelerator will open up NVIDIA's Omniverse and AI ecosystem to a whole new world of industrial automation, built with Siemens” mechanical and electrical software, IoT and edge solutions."

This partnership brings together complementary technologies and ecosystems to realise the industrial metaverse. Siemens is uniquely positioned at the intersection of the real and digital worlds, information technology and operational technology. The Siemens Xcelerator platform connects mechanical, electrical and software domains across product and manufacturing processes and enables the convergence of IT and OT.

NVIDIA Omniverse is an AI-supported, physically simulated virtual world on an industrial scale, enabling fully faithful, live ‘digital twin’ for the first time. NVIDIA AI, used by more than 25,000 companies worldwide, is the intelligence engine of Omniverse in the cloud and autonomous systems at the edge. NVIDIA Omniverse and AI are ideal compute engines to represent the complete ‘digital twin’ of Siemens Xcelerator.
